The vineyard regions in France’s Languedoc-Roussillon—specifically Gard, Herault and Aude—are known for stony soils that produce rich red wines. This Syrah is, indeed, rich: blackberry, cassis, black cherry and dark jam flavors.
Winemakers set aside a small portion of the wine for oak aging to add character, while allowing the vibrant red fruit flavors to shine through. Malolactic fermentation gave it a rich mouthfeel. A terrific foil for sharp cheeses.
